AOL Spam Control procedures

The AOLŪ software automatically stores e-mail that appears to be junk or spam in your Spam Folder. Your Mail and Spam Controls setting determines how the AOLŪ spam filter decides which e-mail is spam.

Modify Spam Controls

You should check your Spam folder frequently to ensure that the spam filtering system is properly classifying e-mail as spam. Occasionally, e-mail that is not spam will be sent to your Spam folder if it does not meet your criteria for acceptable e-mail (for example, bank notices, membership newsletters, and e-mail from new friends).

To modify spam controls:

1. Sign on to the AOLŪ service with your master screen name.
2. Go to AOLŪ Keyword: Spam Controls.
3. In the Mail and Spam Controls window, click the Controls for: drop-down menu to open it, choose a screen name for which you want to set the spam controls from the list, then click it.
4. Next to Sender Filter:, click the Edit link.
5. In the Sender Filter window, under the My Sender Filter should: and Blocked mail should be: sections, choose the desired controls by clicking them, then click the Save button to return to the Mail and Spam Controls window.
Note: To use custom sender list, click the Use a Custom Sender List link, add or remove the desired screen name or e-mail address, then click the Save button to return to the Sender Filter window. Click the Save button to return to the Mail and Spam Controls window.
6. Next to Content Filter:, click the Edit link.
7. In the Content Filter window, click the boxes next to the desired controls to place or remove check marks in them, then click the Save button to return to the Mail and Spam Controls window.
